Standing the Steel: The New Boardsort Headquarters Takes Shape

Over the past several weeks, the new Boardsort headquarters has transformed from a concrete slab into a towering steel structure, and we’ve officially reached one of the most exciting stages of the entire build: the full erection of the main frame. The “big iron,” as the crews call it, is now standing proud—rigid frames bolted into place, purlins and girts tied across the bays, and bracing stretched tight to hold everything square. Watching these massive steel columns and rafters go up has been nothing short of incredible.

Each frame begins with the columns being set on anchor bolts embedded in the slab, plumbed perfectly straight, and then connected to the huge roof beams that give the building its clear-span interior. Once several of these frames are in place, the crews lace the entire structure together with horizontal purlins on the roof, wall girts on the sides, and diagonal bracing to lock everything into position. The result is the strong, open, forklift-ready footprint that our new facility needs.

As the skeleton neared completion, other crucial elements began falling into place. One of the most noticeable milestones is the installation of our ventilation system. Large louver panels have now been mounted high along the walls, allowing the building to exhaust heat and airflow naturally. These louvers are screened and designed to shed rain while still letting warm air escape—an important feature in a facility that handles large volumes of electronic scrap. Their placement at the upper elevations of the steel gives the entire building a clean, industrial look while providing essential airflow.

Also in place now are the windows, which will serve the future mezzanine level offices once that structure is built. Even without the mezzanine floor installed yet, these windows already give a clear sense of elevation and scale, adding depth and architectural character to the steel frame. Set high within the rigid steel bays, each window was carefully lifted, aligned, and secured directly into the structural framing, ensuring long-term strength and weather-tight performance.

Along the roadside elevation, the exterior skin of the building is now rapidly taking shape as long runs of deep green steel siding are fastened into place. From end to end, these precision-formed panels stretch the full height of the 16-foot walls, transforming the open steel framework into a solid, weather-tight structure. Each panel is anchored through the ribs into the wall girts behind it, locking the insulation tightly in place and creating a clean, uniform exterior surface. Even under winter conditions, the crews continue pushing forward, and with every new section completed the building looks less like a construction site and more like the finished Boardsort facility we’ve been envisioning from the start.

The insulation alone represents a major component of the project. It arrived in two full semi-truck trailers—massive rolls stacked floor to ceiling—and every bit of it will be used. The roof alone covers 18,000 square feet, and the 16-foot-tall perimeter walls add another 8,640 square feet of surface area. In total, the new headquarters will receive approximately 26,640 square feet of insulated coverage. This will make the building more energy efficient, more comfortable for our staff and customers, and better protected against moisture and temperature swings.

With the steel fully erected, ventilation and windows installed, insulation rolling across the framing, and the first stretches of siding already fastened into place, the project has officially entered its next phase. Every day brings visible progress now, and the transformation is accelerating. Standing on-site, watching the walls rise and the skin go on, it’s impossible not to feel the excitement. Boardsort.com’s new home is no longer just a plan—it’s becoming a reality, one piece of iron and one sheet of steel at a time.
